WordWalk went to Jamaica twice in 2014. Both trips had some similarities, but in essence they were radically different.
JAMAICA – JUL 22-31, 2014 (#1)
Sixteen lively souls represented WordWalk on the July 22-31 adventure. This included three Jamaicans and one young man from Panama.
Our supplies included Bibles, medicines, reader eye glasses, a computer for one of the pastors, and various provisions for school. We ministered in three churches, two orphanages, and several communities. Every member of the team participated in exhausting work day after day. Some worked directly with the children while others did intensive labor for some construction work that was going on at one of the churches. While this was going on, we administered eye-glasses and distributed Bibles. We also ministered to the gracious staff at the hotel where we were staying. We blended together with each other and with the brothers and sisters in Jamaica. Our time there concluded with an intimate communion service.
JAMAICA – AUG 5-14, 2014 (#2)
There were twelve who represented WordWalk as we served the people of Jamaica on our second trip, August 5-14. Actually, it was August 5-15. Due to mechanical problems with the airline, we spent an extra evening in Miami upon our return.
On this second trip, we were particularly focused as our supplies included tools and Bibles. We would purchase building supplies on the island. At one of the orphanages we completely replaced tables, chairs, and benches for the children. We also repaired the swing set and built a sturdy clothesline for their laundry. We were also actively involved in building two structures for a local assembly of believers. At that church we also provided 100 brand new chairs. Every week they had to rent chairs, but they now have their own. Wherever we journeyed, we passed out copies of the Bible. We must have needed an extra day in Miami…to rest.
